WHAT IS MASSAGE THERAPY?

Massage therapy is the treatment of the bodies many different soft tissues. These include: muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. My treatments consist of the following techniques: Myofascial Contractile release, Swedish Deep Tissue Massage, Joint Play, and Muscle Energy Technique. In between appointments, patient homecare consists of hot and cold hydrotherapy, stretching and strengthening exercises, and postural awareness.

SWEDISH DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Swedish massage encompasses many different techniques to treat the body’s muscular tissue. Effleurage is used to warm up the superficial tissue with light work such as glides and strokes. Petrissage is used to treat the deeper tissues through muscle squeezing, muscle stripping, and a variety of kneading techniques. Tapotement is a tapping technique used to stimulate and increase circulation
to the muscles.

MUSCLE ENERGY TECHNIQUE

Muscle Energy Technique is a procedure that has the patient voluntarily contract a muscle group in a specific direction, at varying levels of intensity, against the resistance of the therapist. It is an excellent pain free method to lengthen tight muscles through a routine of contracting, relaxing, and stretching. It is also used to reduce positional faults in joints, and to correct postural imbalances due to muscular restrictions.

MYOFASCIAL CONTRACTILE RELEASE

Fascia is three dimensional network of connective tissue within the body that can withstand extreme amounts of stress. This tissue is all continuous from the separation of our organs, to the compart-
mentalization of muscle groups and fibres, even to the outer protective layer of our nerves. Slow, passive release of this tissue can help alleviate chronic postural dysfunctions, digestive problems, and muscular imbalances.

Charles Carl, RMT

The human body has the power to heal itself as it is always striving to be in a harmonious state of homeostasis. Sometimes our bodies get stuck in negative cycles or patterns; be it either postural, physical, mental, or emotional. My job as an R.M.T. is to give the body a helpful “kickstart” and assist to get it back on track by attempting to correct those harmful cycles and patterns. My goal is to do this through the power of touch. Having been trained to assess and treat the many different soft tissues of the body, I look forward to working with you in the pursuit towards optimum health through deep tissue swedish massage, myofascial contractile release, joint play, and numerous strengthening and stretching exercises.
